Born and raised in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, Protoje blends hip hop, soul, and jazz with reggae and dancehall. Gaining mainstream attention in the “reggae revival” movement, his 2014 hit “Who Knows” ft. Chronixx catapulted him to fame. His 2022 album, Third Time's A Charm, earned a GRAMMY nomination, and he has collaborated with artists like Jorja Smith and Alicia Keys. He has performed on major platforms like NPR Tiny Desk and The Tonight Show, and toured globally. Protoje's major deal with RCA Records also supports rising female artists Lila Iké, Sevana, and Jaz Elise, earning acclaim for his innovative sound.
